Things To Know On Alopecia Areata
By Dalvin Rumsey
You must be wondering what alopecia areata really means. Well, it is a conditions that causes hair loss. It can affect many areas of a persons body, but most frequent cases affect the scalp. A patient will loose his or her hair rather quickly and quite often it happens on one side of the head more than the other. This type of is different than male pattern baldness, which is an inherited condition. Alopecia areata can equally affect both men and women.

Alopecia areata is sometimes associated with other autoimmune conditions such as allergic disorders, thyroid disease, vitiligo, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis. Alopecia areata tends to occur most often in children and young adults. But this is not a general rule, as this condition can equally affect older adults. No one can say that he or she is not facing the risk of getting alopecia areata.

The diagnose of alopecia areata is the exclamation point hair. This is because the unusual hairs can be found in areas of hair loss. A biopsy of the scalp is sometimes necessary for a diagnosis.

The causes of this disease involve by an abnormality in the immune system, which leads to autoimmunity. As a result, the immune system attacks particular tissues of the body. No one seems ro know the reason why in alopecia areata, the body's own immune system attacks the hair follicles and disrupts normal hair formation. Biopsies of affected skin show immune cells inside of the hair follicles where they are not normally present. The causes of this are still a mystery. Sometimes, alopecia areata occurs within members of the same family,

which can point to heredity as a possible cause.

There are many patterns for alopecia areata, but the most common is the one or more spots of on the scalp. Sometimes, all of the scalp hair is lost, which is a condition called alopecia totalis. There is also a form of more generalized thinning of hair throughout the scalp. The loss of all of the hairs on the entire body occurs very rarely and the disease is then being called alopecia universalis.

So, if any of these things somehow point to a symptom you may be experiencing, do not waste any more time and take action! We must be true to ourselves in order to continue being healthy!
